The Rise of Unconventional Hip-Hop

I've always been a huge fan of music, especially Hip-Hop so it was only natural that it be my first publication.

Within, the last couple of years an explosion of genres began blending and instilling into the Hip-Hop genus and culture. Groups such as De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Digital Underground served as pioneers challenging the norms within the genre fusing funk, pop/rock, jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk into Hip-Hop. Overtime, these 'sub-genres' began to grow popularity and accepted by the masses.

I decided to separate my publication into three sections: The History (of the genre), The Players (artist profiles), and The Contributors (credits to sources and information). Using a timeline, each page represents the year (roughly) the artist grew popularity and was recognized in the Hip-Hop community and culture.

Collectively, this is probably one of my favorite projects. Given the time and energy put forth, the final compilation surpassed my expectations completely. I really hope viewers can read my publication and take away the originality these artists have, challenging the norms, and being true to what their creative minds have expressed for us to appreciate and support.
